Did you know that as we age, especially women, we lose bone density? Menopausal women are especially at risk. This leaves us prone to osteopenia, osteoporosis and broken and deformed bones. When the body is inactive, bone cells called osteoclasts, clean up, eat old bone. The more inactive, the more old bone to eat away at, leaving the bone porous and brittle.
The good news is that the opposite also happens! Exercise, dancing, walking, running, yoga, weight training, anything that causes impact; causes bone cells called osteoblasts to build bone where it is required. This makes for denser, stronger bones.
So here's the bottom line. As if we needed another reason! Our bodies are built to move! Move them. Every day in many ways. And reap the rewards as you age beautifully and healthily.
